My Location

What Is a Location Finder?

A location finder is a free online tool that uses your browser's Geolocation API to determine your current position on Earth — displaying your latitude, longitude, accuracy radius, and reverse-geocoded address (city, region, country). It then shows your location on a map. Your location is never stored or sent to any server — everything happens locally in your browser.

Common Use Cases

Use CaseExample
NavigationFinding GPS coordinates for offline maps
TravelMarking your current location to share with family
PhotographyGeotagging photos with accurate coordinates
DeliveryConfirming your exact address for deliveries
WeatherGetting local weather for your exact coordinates

ℹ️ Latitude and longitude are the most common coordinate system used by GPS devices, smartphones, and mapping services. For example, the Eiffel Tower is at 48.8584° N, 2.2945° E. Your device can pinpoint you to within meters using GPS, or within a city block using Wi-Fi positioning.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does this location tool work?

This tool uses your browser's built-in Geolocation API. When you click 'Get My Location', the browser asks for permission to share your GPS coordinates. If you approve, it returns your latitude, longitude, accuracy, and reverse-geocoded address.

Is my location data stored?

No. This tool runs entirely in your browser. Your location is never sent to our servers — the reverse geocoding (converting coordinates to an address) uses the public Nominatim/OpenStreetMap API. No data is logged or stored.

Why is my location not accurate?

Accuracy depends on your device and connection. Phones with GPS and good cellular signal can be accurate to within a few meters. Desktop computers with Wi-Fi may be accurate to 100m–1km. Allow location access for best results, and try refreshing if accuracy seems poor.

What is latitude and longitude?

Latitude and longitude are coordinates that describe any location on Earth. Latitude ranges from -90° (South Pole) to +90° (North Pole). Longitude ranges from -180° to +180°, measuring east-west from the Prime Meridian in Greenwich, UK.

Can I find my location on a map?

Yes. After clicking 'Get My Location', a Google Map appears showing your approximate position with a marker. The map loads dynamically only after you request your location — it is not loaded until needed.

Is this location finder free?

Yes. Free to use with no signup or download required.
